Is having a cough normal?

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

Other causes are acute or chronic sinus infection, chronic lung diseases, heart failure, laryngitis, lung cancer, medications, and blood clots in your lungs (pulmonary embolism).

A cough can be serious if it is associated with shortness of breath, low oxygen, or coughing up blood.
